I spent all day Saturday with my awesome family, in the pool, laughing, chatting, catching up and it got me thinking about the last time we were ALL together (minus one cousin), which was my cousins wedding, last year. So naturally I drifted back there and started reminiscing about all the prep work that went into it and the gorgeous day that followed! I will never forget the day Em called and told me that she was engaged! Immediately, I knew she had to get married in a barn, and I was on the hunt (Em grew up riding and showing horses, her and her husband, Shawn, now live on 4 acres with 2 horses, 3 dogs, 2 four wheelers, a razor and a camper – well, they live in a house, not in the camper!). Clearly my aunt (the other master mind behind this whole wedding) was on the same page as I was and the venue visits began. Cottonwood Barn in Dexter MI was their final stop, this barn with it’s gorgeous architecture brought the old barn feel with the modern day amenities needed to host any event, and just like that, the date and venue were set! Now for the fun part.
With this gorgeous barn as our backdrop, the options were endless, but, naturally we went with a romantic country theme, that included a lot of mason jars, burlap, chalkboard signs, and colorful summer flowers (Em insisted on sunflowers). My Aunt Laura (Em’s mom), is very crafty (she gets it from my Grandma), and there were many weekends filled with DIY projects, wine, laughter, and family time. I think that is one of my favorite things about being a part of Emily’s day, spending time with my family, I digress…
Having the wedding at Cottonwood Barn, we had to bring in EVERYTHING – tables, chairs, dinnerware, glasses, alcohol, food, you name it, it had to be brought in. Laura at Cottonwood was amazing to work with and we had an army of friends and family helping bring this master piece to life and less then 24 hours later, Emily and Shawn were saying I DO on July 4th 2015. It was a beautiful day and everything came together seamlessly with the help of our vendors. The perfect summer Flowers by Country Lane Flower Shop, rentals from A-1 Rentals, Bad Brad’s BBQ filled everyone’s bellies, the DJ, Steve Miller, had the perfect mix of music and never let the party stop, and the entire day was captured by non-other than Jacqueline Marie Photography.
A little glimpse into all the prep work that went into Emily and Shawn’s July 4th wedding, looking forward to our next family wedding in October, when her sister, Rachel will be tying the knot. Words can’t explain how much I love spending time with all of my family. It blows my mind how close we all are and as the years have gone by, how much fun we have when we are together. I’m the oldest grandchild on this side of seven and I truly can say I have enjoyed watching all of my cousins and my sibling grow up, become who they are, take on careers, new homes, watching them fall in love, and now get married!
